First meeting: Monday, August 27, 2018
Where writers come to play.
Welcome to Lima Senior High's Writers' Guild. This guild is made up of students and teachers who have a common interest in the pursuit of creative writing. Sometimes life gets in the way of our pursuits, so this guild is meant to establish a designated time to write for the fun of it. Those of you who have interest in publishing your work, the guild will discuss and explore publishing options. We will also consider writing conventions and connections with published authors.

We meet every Monday at 3:10p.m. until 4:30p.m. in Mrs. Herron's room 202. A typical meeting will include a connections time, writing prompt, time to write (20 minutes), and time to share writing with the group's positive feedback and encouragement. To become a member of the guild, meetings are required. If you cannot attend meetings (or can only attend part-time) but still want to be a part of the guild, see the opportunities menu.
Purpose
Our purpose is to support the art of creative writing. The guild is established to promote a wide range of opportunities in creative writing from a designated time to write and reflect, writing contests, perusing publishing, informal and formal critique, writing conventions, and more. Please understand that meeting times are meant to be a safe place for expression, but we are also a school club. School appropriateness and common courtesy must be adhered to so that we all will have fun. Rather than dwell on your life drama, write about it!

Writers' Guild members and friends will have the opportunity to publish their work in the school's literary magazine, titled Lambda. Lambda is both an online periodical that is published quarterly here on this website as well as a physical magazine printed and distributed towards the end of the school year. The physical magazine will include the guild's "greatest hits" from the school year as well as images of students' and teachers' artwork.
What is a Lambda?
A lambda is the symbol that stands for Laconia or Lacedaemon, which is the country to which Sparta was capital. The lambda symbol was painted on the Spartans' shields. Military families passed on their shields to each generation as family heirlooms.
